Sikh and Punjabi Studies: Achievements and New Directions Conference- Open to Bay Area Residents!

In this inaugural conference for the Sikh and Punjabi Studies program at the University of California, Santa Cruz on November 10-12, 2011, leading and emerging scholars will take stock of the state of the field and its future direction, in the areas of their expertise. Sessions will cover history, philosophy, language and literature, political economy, musicology and contemporary society.

UC Santa Cruz is one of four California campuses to have a Sikh Studies department. Professor Nirvikar Singh holds the chair for the Sarbjit Singh Aurora Chair of Sikh and Punjabi Studies at UCSC, which was newly inaugurated in March of this year to focus on teaching of Sikh and Punjabi studies from a global and multicultural perspective.
